Snowflake Challenge - Day 13

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Gosh... I did a few resolutions on New Year's, but I think some have already... shifted if not changed. Previously, I set a modest goal of writing 100 words a week because I really want to start writing this year (I used to, but I stopped as I got more confident with my drawing and far less confident with my writing...). Then, I joined GetYourWordsOut, so I guess I'm committed to a far bit more than that... as in 400 words a day more... Nevertheless, I'll stick to it!

I've got a really important lesson to learn, and that is: it's okay to write badly! I always tell people what makes a good artist isn't talent. It's the passion to persevere enough to become good, and I think I really need to apply that to writing. If I want to become a good writer, I need to write... so, I will!!

As for specific goals... hmm. I think I'd like to finish a WIP... my second goal is to write a single 5k story... as a stretch goal: 10k! It's kinda funny how as a reader, I look at anything under 50k as a short fic, but as a writer, I struggle to hit 500 words & marvel at anything over 1k fghjkl;

hey, really cool of you to do the get your words out thing! i was too scared to formally join, they look strict over there! but i've been trying to get about the same word count per day out, on average at least. i hope that's going well for you!!

i've really been trying to learn that lesson myself! i've always been a perfectionist, and it's hard to make myself acknowledge that not everything is gonna be perfect the first time around. so good on you for pushing that, and thanks for posting about it; i needed the reminder right about now.

good luck with all your goals! they're really really similar to mine actually. it's a bit uncanny. are you me?

Perseverance is definitely the way to get better! We all start out sucking at this, and everyone (should) knows it.
Good luck! :)

A fellow GYWOer! Good luck on your journey! I'm doing a habit pledge this year, and I'm curious to see how it goes :)

Also: bad words can be rewritten. A blank page can't ;)

Good luck with your writing goals! I’ve never joined anything like that (or done a Big Bang) since I know I’d fail completely at it, so I admire anyone that tries to do it!

I feel that, but sometimes creativity can surprise you! I never expected to be back to writing as much as I am already this year.

Oh that’s so cool! I’ve never really done many challenges but iM hoping to do a few this year, since I did bandom-holidays last month and that was fun. I wish I had art skills!

My original 2019 goals list has already changed. I went to look mine up after I did this challenge and was like 'Well, umm... oops?'

Artists do a lot of sketches that don't work out and it's not a big deal. It's good to look at writing the same way, a lot of it is just practice. Some works, some don't. Good luck!

oh hey Get Your Words Out! I'm hoping to do that next year, if I can write consistently this year. So *\o/* for you.

I'm doing GYWO for the first time this year and while I'm not managing anywhere near my goal, I've already written more words in the last two weeks than I did for the whole of 2018 so I'm pleased with that.

Good luck with your goals :)

This!! If I try to make my writing sound good on the first draft, it throws me into a block. It helps me a lot to try to let that go and then go back and edit after I’ve actually got the words down and even then it’s ok for it to not be perfect

Good luck :) GYWO is great for showing how much you *have* accomplished; I've written about not meeting my goal last year (250k) but I managed to achieve 100k and the spreadsheet made that possible to track :)

what's GetYourWordsOut? Also, I think that it's soooo important to know that we can write "badly". Art is about figuring out what you like and how to get to that point! Also omg I'm the exact same as a reader/writer word count. Under 50k to read? Short fic, but my average fics are somewhere 2-6k haha

Sometimes when I look back on my old RP writings, I cringe horribly, but if I hadn't written what I wrote then, I don't think I could write what I do now, so you have a really good point with that! Good luck with keeping up with your goals!
