Snowflake Challenge #2
Jan. 6th, 2022 04:18 pmChallenge #2
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.
Initially, I wasn't going to do any "goals" a la New Years Resolutions... but I wasn't feeling super motivated around the 1st. I've since picked up bullet journaling again and feel a bit more likely to be productive, so why not?
First, I'd like to revisit some of my goals from last year, and see how I did.
- I got maybe halfway through the RFA Challenge before giving up. Exercise goals have always been really difficult for me to stick to, especially since I struggle to see the point in them.
- I don't even remember what happened with the doodle challenge lmao Towards the later half of the year, though, I did start drawing more again, though!
- As for my Japanese learning, I'm pretty proud of my progress. I managed to finish Genki II, took a conversational Japanese class, and read the first volume of the manga Yotsubato in Japanese! I took a long, several month break, and am now getting back into it. But I'll talk about that more in this year's goals.
- I read 6 books this year, and got 3/4 of the way through a 7th before I decided to drop it. Unfortunately, most of those were books I picked up recently, so I didn't really make a dent in my to-read pile lol
- I finished Link's Awakening and made zero progress in finishing Fire Emblem Three Houses haha oops
- Finally, I did take part in a fandom fest! There was a Kazuha Big Bang that I did art for :) Go me
Alright, enough reminiscing, onto the future!
- More Japanese learning progress? More Japanese learning progress. I'd like to go ahead and try my first Visual Novel in Japanese. I still have... a bunch of manga I bought, and I got my hands on the first Harry Potter novel, so those'll be interesting to tackle! We'll just kind of see where my whims take me I suppose lol
- Another reading goal? You bet! I think I would seriously like to do something about my to read pile this year... either by actually reading them or just giving them away. StoryGraph has a bunch of reading challenges, so I think I'll try to find one that works for me.
- Finally, my video game backlog. In particular, I have a bunch of visual novels I've picked up during sales that I haven't even started (never mind the ones still leftover from the BLM itch.io bundle... oof). I want to keep buying and playing new games that come out, especially so I can get more involved with communities that play them! But I'd feel better about buying new games if I didn't have so many unplayed.
I think I'll just play the rest of the year by ear... take opportunities as they come and set more short-term goals as I see myself able to achieve them. Who knows how fandom will play out. We'll just have to see!
